Pollen banked €3.2M in a Seed round co-led by Pale Blue Dot. The Portugal-based startup is targeting the infrastructure gap in urban transport by developing a universal battery-swapping network for electric two-wheelers, including mopeds and motorcycles.
The company provides a hardware-agnostic platform designed to allow different manufacturers of light electric vehicles to share the same energy infrastructure. By installing modular swap stations in cities, Pollen aims to eliminate charging downtime and range anxiety for individual commuters and commercial delivery fleets.
Founder Rui Bento previously served as a General Manager at Uber and oversaw the launch of the ride-hailing service in Portugal. His experience in scalining urban mobility operations informs the company’s focus on high-utilisation vehicle segments that require rapid energy replenishment to remain profitable.
As European cities tighten emissions regulations, the shift toward interoperable charging infrastructure reflects a growing data trend of hardware standardisation as a prerequisite for mass electric vehicle adoption.
