Biohm raises £4M to grow construction materials from fungi

Biohm secured £4M (≈ €4.8M) in Seed funding to scale the production of bio-based construction materials. The round saw participation from a range of undisclosed investors supporting the company’s expansion into industrial-scale manufacturing.

The London and Bristol-based startup specialises in "mycelium" technology, using the root structure of fungi to grow insulation panels and acoustic treatments. By combining organic waste with fungal strains, the company produces carbon-sequestering materials that serve as high-performance alternatives to traditional petroleum-based insulation and plastics used in the built environment.

Beyond its fungal research, the company operates a patented regenerative manufacturing process that converts agricultural and food waste into structural biocomposites. This funding follows years of research and development aimed at meeting stringent fire safety and thermal performance standards required for commercial construction compliance.

As the European Union and the UK tighten carbon regulations for the construction sector, Biohm represents a growing cohort of deep-tech firms shifting the industry from mere efficiency toward truly regenerative material science.
