Gradient Labs doubles Series A to €24.3M for autonomous finance agents

Gradient Labs banked €24.3M ($26m) in an expanded Series A round led by Octopus Ventures and CommerzVentures. The London-based startup doubled its previous funding total following an extension that included participation from existing backers Redpoint Ventures and Exceptional Capital, alongside LocalGlobe, Puzzle Ventures, and Liquid 2 Ventures.

The company develops vertical AI agents designed to handle complex customer service operations specifically for the financial sector. Unlike general-purpose chatbots, these agents automate specialized workflows such as lending applications, payment disputes, and Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance checks. The startup currently serves high-profile fintech clients including Wise, Monzo, and Zego.

Founded in 2023 by former Monzo engineers Dimitri Masin, Neal Lathia, and Danai Antoniou, the firm is part of a growing cohort of "Monzo alumni" startups emerging from the UK’s mature neo-banking ecosystem. This fresh capital is earmarked for product development and an expansion into the US market, where it competes with high-valuation enterprise AI firms like Sierra and Decagon.

Gradient Labs' success in securing mid-stage capital underscores a shift in European fintech towards highly specialized, infrastructure-level AI applications rather than broad horizontal automation tools.
